Emergency Preparedness

Wildfires, floods, and other climate-related emergencies are becoming more common and we need to be ready. Emergency preparedness must be a community-wide effort that’s proactive, inclusive, and locally driven.

If elected, I will:

  • Work closely with local grassroots groups, to support expansion of FireSmart initiatives as well as community grassroots groups that help neighbourhoods prepare and reduce risk.

  • Advocate for annual Emergency Preparedness events to raise awareness and educate residents on the Town’s emergency plans and the steps already being taken to protect our community.

  • Engage directly with immigrant communities to ensure FireSmart and emergency preparedness materials are available in multiple languages - through workplaces, information sessions, and community events.

  • Help build a culture of preparedness that includes all residents, regardless of language, background, or how long they’ve lived here.

When emergencies strike, it’s often our neighbours and community networks that make the biggest difference. Let’s strengthen those networks and ensure everyone in Canmore has access to the knowledge and tools they need to stay safe.
