Environment & Wildlife

A place we share and must protect.

I’ve always felt a deep respect for nature and it’s one of the reasons I chose to make Canmore my home. Since moving here, I’ve made it a personal mission to keep our trails clean not just for people, but for wildlife too.

Whether on my own or with friends through a Canmore Cleanup Facebook group I started, I’ve spent years picking up garbage across our trail systems. These trails aren’t just recreational paths they’re shared spaces. Keeping them clean is a way of showing respect for the environment and the animals that call this valley home. Every cleanup is a small act of care for the land, our community, and the wild creatures we share it with.

I’m proud to volunteer as a Wildlife Ambassador with the Biosphere Institute and and a member with local groups like Bow Valley Climate Action. These partnerships help me stay connected to community-led solutions and deepen my commitment to protecting our environment.

Through my work with newcomers, I’ve worked closely with WildSmart to include wildlife safety education in every “Try It Sports” event. Helping people recreate safely and respectfully is essential to protecting both our communities and the wild spaces around us.

I believe we can have both a thriving, inclusive community and a protected, healthy environment. But it takes thoughtful planning, education, and a deep respect for the land and wildlife we share it with. This place is special, not just for its scenery, but for the way people and wildlife live side by side. Let’s make sure it stays that way, not just for today, but for generations to come.
